May 15th Vision and Planning Retreat

On Saturday, May 15th, the leadership of Northside met for a day long vision and planning retreat. Some of the questions they considered were:

Based on Scripture, what is the identity, purpose and characteristics of the church universal? What would God say to the church of the 21st century? They then looked at current social trends, examined the need for ongoing faith formation, and then asked some additional questions. "Why do people need Jesus Christ?" "Why do people need the church?" and, "How do these answers relate to Northside and impact our vision for the future?"

The afternoon was spent looking at long-term visions and shorter-term goals. After an opportunity to vote on their top choices, the top three long-term visions included:

Continue to focus on strong preaching and worship experiences that are varied and inclusive; be intentional about helping people become mature in their faith; and be intentional about reaching to the unchurched including casual church goers and young adults.

Short-term goals included:

Increased use of new technology in communication; build a small group ministry; look at alternative worship services; consider the property signage; increase leadership training.

The need for follow-up and keeping track of visions and goals were discussed. And the day ended with song and prayer. We look forward to moving ahead together as a Church by prayerfully planning and implementing strategies for meeting our vision and goals.
